Augusta Enforces State Order for Burn Ban April 22, 2026
The Augusta Fire Department is informing residents of a burn ban issued by the State of Georgia through the Georgia Forestry Commission.Effective immediately, open outdoor burning is prohibited in 91 Georgia counties, including Augusta, Georgia. This action is in response to ongoing drought conditions and an increase in wildfire activity across the state.In addition, the Environmental Protection Divisions Summer Open Burn Ban will take effect on May 1, 2026, and remain in place through September 30, 2026. This seasonal restriction prohibits the burning of yard debris and land-clearing materials. The year-round prohibition on burning household garbage also remains in effect.Residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines to help reduce fire risk and protect the community.For more information on burn restrictions, residents are encouraged to visit the Georgia Forestry Commission or Georgia Environmental Protection Division websites.
